I Spent the last two weeks helping at a Christian Youth Camp. On one of our evening walks we found three old grave stone on a dirt road off the main highway. One of the stones reads Abner Wood a native of Rhode Island and a Revolutionary Soilder who died Sept 22 1838 AE could be 80 or 90 years.

The other is Phebe Wood wife of Abner who died Aug 21st 1833 age 78 years.

The three stone is some kind of Memorial to Abner.

Location is Hubbardsville in Madison County NY.

Bonita, I found some info on Abner Wood stating that he served in the military for parts of 1775-1779, was married to his first cousin (Phebe Potter) in 1778 and moved to Madison Co, NY c1810. He is supposedly buried on his farm with his wife & mother. His parents were Peleg Wood and Ruth Shaw. For part of his military service he was a volunteer, part drafted and part a substitute for his brother Reuben, who had also been drafted. He stated on his pension application that his service was mostly guarding the shores of Newport, RI. There is alot more info in the book if you want me to send it to you. Patty
